Help

Getting started, fixing common problems, and how to reach a person.

Get started

  1. Lirnyk needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Download Lirnyk and move it to Applications.
  2. Open it. Lirnyk lives in the menu bar and has no Dock icon.
  3. Allow Accessibility access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Lirnyk needs it to copy and paste the selection for you.
  4. In Lirnyk’s Settings → General, pick a provider and paste its API key. OpenRouter is the easiest start: one key for models from many companies.
  5. Press Test to check the key and model. Then select some text anywhere and press ⌃⌥F.

AI providers

OpenRouter

One key for hundreds of models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others.

OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini

Use your own key with the provider directly. Each provider keeps its own key and model, so you can switch back and forth.

Ollama (local)

Runs a model on your Mac, so your text never leaves it. No key and no cost.

  1. Install Ollama.
  2. Pull a model in Terminal, for example ollama pull llama3.2.
  3. In Settings → General, choose Ollama (local). The model list shows the models you have pulled.

The first request can take a while as the model loads. Lirnyk waits up to two minutes. To use Ollama on another machine, change the server address from http://localhost:11434.

One model is used for all profiles. Small, fast models work well for rewriting.

Profiles and shortcuts

Each profile has a name, a shortcut and a prompt. The defaults are Friendly ⌃⌥F, Corporate ⌃⌥H and Tech ⌃⌥O.

To change one, open Settings → Profiles, pick a profile and record a new shortcut. The prompt decides everything, including the output language: a profile that says “Translate to English” translates. Paste sample text under the prompt to try it before you use it. You can also run any profile from the menu bar menu.

When something goes wrong

Nothing happens when I press a shortcut

Check that text is selected and that Lirnyk is turned on under Accessibility in System Settings. After an update, macOS can keep a stale entry: remove Lirnyk from the Accessibility list with the minus button, then add it again.

The bubble shows an error

Nothing is pasted and your clipboard is restored, so your text is safe. Open Settings → General and press Test: it shows whether the key, the model or the network is the problem.

A rewrite takes too long

Press Esc to cancel. Try a smaller model; with Ollama, the first request after a while is slower while the model loads.

Contact

Email metaruntech@gmail.com or open an issue on GitHub. Say what you did and what happened; your macOS version and Lirnyk version (Settings → About) help too.

Lirnyk is free, open source and made by one person in Ukraine. If it saves you time, a coffee on Ko-fi helps keep it going.
